Elephant knocked over in scramble for food, dies at Toronto Zoo
Tessa, the gentlest elephant in the herd at the Toronto Zoo, died last week after being knocked over when the elephants were heading over to be fed. Tessa was 40 and had lived at the zoo since it opened in 1974. I question Eric Cole’s statement that Tessa lived longer that she would have in the wild. It’s well known that captive elephants don’t live as long as elephants in the wild. – The Calgary Heralrd

Who gave a home to elephant Sheila?
During World War II a number of animals at the Bellevue Zoo in Belfast were killed because the government feared that if the zoo were hit by a bomb that the animals would be dangerous to the population.
The elephant Shelia, however, escaped this fate, and lived in the backyard of a house near the zoo.
The zoo is now trying to find out who the people were that took care of Shelia.
