Zoo seeks levies for upgrades, operations
“The capital levy will also pay for larger elephant and rhino facilities. Expanding the elephant yard means the zoo can comply with Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ standards. Because wild female elephants live in social groups, the AZA recommends zoos house no fewer than three females. Plus, part of the elephant yard will be upgraded to hold a male. Without strengthening the elephant facility, the zoo would not be able to keep Louie, the 3-year-old African elephant born in Toledo.” – - toledoblade.com -
