“It’s not just the people at the Wildcare Africa Animal Rehabilitation Centre who make the place so special. The animals have their personalities too. Undeniably, the most temperamental creature is Olly, the orphaned Botswana baby elephant. One minute he seems to be carrying the weight of the entire elephant population on his shoulders, the next he trumpets loudly and tries to intimidate the adults by butting them. We don’t know if his mother was shot or if he was abandoned,” Trendler says. “He stands in his corner and philosophises about why he was abandoned and why he is not with his family.”The Star
